How to make computer download to a certain file

Select a download folder if prompted. Some browsers, such as Internet Explorer, will ask you to click a folder e. Chrome, Firefox, and Safari will all begin downloading the file immediately by default.

On Safari, you can click the downward-facing arrow in the upper-right side of the browser window to view the download's progress. Open your downloaded file. You can do this either by clicking the file's name in the bar at the bottom of the browser window or in the downward-facing arrow window in Safari , or by navigating to your computer's default download location, which is typically a folder entitled "Downloads".

You can search for the "Downloads" folder by typing "downloads" into the Start menu Windows or Spotlight the magnifying glass icon at the top of your Mac's screen.

Method 2. Open a browsing app. The default browser app for iOS devices is Safari, which is a white app with a blue compass icon on it. You can't download setup files or text files to your iPhone, but you can download photos. Navigate to a photo you wish to save. To do so, tap the bar at the top of the screen, then type in the name of an item you wish to view and tap Go.

It should be just below the search that's near the top of the screen. Tap and hold the photo. After a moment, a menu will pop up at the bottom of the screen. Tap Save Image. It's at the top of the pop-up menu.

This will download the photo onto your iPhone. You'll be able to find the photo in your iPhone's Photos app. Method 3. The default Android browser resembles a blue globe, but you can download browsers like Chrome or Firefox from the Google Play Store if you like. Tap the search bar. It's either at the top of the page or in the middle of the page, depending on your browser.

Enter the name of an item you wish to download. This might be an HTML document or a picture. Tap a search result. Doing so will take you to that item's page. If you're searching for images, look for an Images tab somewhere on the search results page. Tapping it will display only images. Tap and hold the item you wish to download. You should see several buttons appear along the top of the screen, though in some cases a pop-up menu will appear instead.

Tap the "Download" button. Here's how to toggle SmartScreen off and on in Edge:. With SmartScreen off, you are on your own about which files to download in Edge, but I would urge you to go back and toggle SmartScreen on when you have finished downloading your file.

And, of course, only turn it off to download files you know to be safe. In Windows Defender, you can also change Edge's SmartScreen to merely warn you when you are about to download a file it deems suspicious instead of it outright blocking it. You can also create a hierarchy of folders as I did here for GIFs. This only will be the case for big websites like Facebook, Twitter and others. To check the URL, just right-click on an image and open it in a new tab.

Another option is to set Global referrer folder. Checking this option will download the file to the folder that has the same name as the source URL. Next is rules based on file name.

This too is simple. You just need to add a single keyword that should match a file name and it will be placed in the destination folder. You can set advanced keywords as shown below. Any of the keywords matches in the file name then it will be placed in that destination folder.

Also, the keywords are NOT case-sensitive. Next, you need to set which rule type will execute first. Becuase, the image you downloaded had the keyword batman thatmatched with file name rule. So, you need to set which rule type will execute first according to your liking. Changing this setting only applies to this browser. Your other browsers will continue to save your files where they did before. If you use a download manager to download files, you need to head into the settings of your download manager app and change the default downloads location.

Did you ever have to change the default downloads location on your Windows 10 PC? What method did you use to do that?
